
Can pedometers accurately measure the amount of calories burned while walking?
I have a pedometer that is supposed be able to measure the number of calories burned while walking. I wonder how accurate it is, however, because metabolic rates vary individuals.
No, they do not work like that. I have not seen one that takes into account your height, weight, percentages of fat and muscle, etc. (All of which affect the speed at which you burn energy), they are not accurate, but can be a good incentive to do more walk.
